Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony carried on from where he left off from last season, scoring to help Ivory Coast comeback to beat Japan 2-1.

After loanee Jonathan de Guzman started for Holland on Friday as they thrashed Spain 5-1, Bony also earned himself a starting place – which was hardly a surprise given the season he’s just had for the Swans.

The 25 year-old needed just 64 minutes to score his first World Cup goal, cancelling out Honda’s early opener for Japan.

Serge Aurier sent in an inviting, out-swinging cross with pace from the right wing and Bony met it well to head home from close range, sending the ball into the far corner.
