Swansea City manager Graham Potter has dismissed speculation in the media linking him with a move to Celtic, insisting that it is “just speculation from you guys in the media”.

Much has been said this season amongst the fans about his future at the club. Many supporters have said that they wouldn’t blame him or be surprised if he “decided to walk” due to the lack of support and ambition shown by our owners.

There’s also been strong rumours suggesting that he showed his frustration in regards to the possible Dan James to Leeds United move, a deadline day transfer that fell through in the final hour.

Two transfer deadline days that saw a large number of players leave prompted comments from fans about Potter’s future, saying how he “deserves better” but I’ve often felt that Potter sounds like a man with integrity. That’s not to say though that he hasn’t got any if he did decide to leave, I do agree with fans who say they wouldn’t blame him if he left but from a selfish perspective I hope he’s here for some time yet!

“It’s just speculation from you guys in the media,”

“I had a bit of a laugh about it with Oli McBurnie and George Byers as Rangers supporters, but apart from that there’s nothing in it as far as I am concerned.”

Potter was asked about the media speculation regarding links to Celtic and it has to be said, it was in the Sun, so hardly worth our attention, is it?

We also can’t forget about how Graham Potter spent seven years in Sweden with Ostersund. Maybe he feels that he needs to build up his experience here first before looking ahead at another step up in his managerial career. He enjoyed the building project in Sweden, improving players and working with very limited resources, enjoying the success of his own hard work and guiding them to the Europa League from the bottom division.

Talking of building projects, there’s one required at Swansea City, not to mention working within a tough environment, financial problems and a board who aren’t showing any ambition towards a return to the Premier League.

“I enjoyed my time in Sweden. I was stable and we made progress and I’m looking forward to the same here.”

“You want the football club you are working at to improve and progress and you want the same for yourself.

“That’s what everybody should be aspiring to. I have a job to do here and I am focused on that.”

We might just creep into the top half of the table by the end of the season and many outsiders might think that that’s no achievement to brag about but looking at the bigger picture, it could have been a lot, lot worse. He’s quickly established an enjoyable and attractive brand of football and you can clearly see the potential there under Potter. It just needs some improvement in certain areas and that’s the main issue here, the lack of support from the board because you can’t help but feel that it wouldn’t need an awful lot for Potter to get us competing closer to the play-offs.
