Transfer Targets – Rory Fallon

We profile Rory Fallon, another striker Jackett is hoping to sign this month.

Chairman Huw Jenkins has dismissed reports that we have had a verbal rejected for Rory Fallon. After signing Leon Knight, the Swans are still hoping to sign a targetman in the transfer window and moves for Holt or Fallon are still not ruled out.

Fallon was thought to be a backup option if a move for Holt broke down. Today?s reports say it?s believed that the bid was around £300,000 ? but I?ll be surprised if there?s any truth in that.

Fallon could play a key part in Swindon?s survival as without his 11 goals this season, they?d be bottom with just 16 points.

Talks have begun about extending his contract at the County Ground as they hope to hang on to their top scorer.

I agree with many other fans that offering £300,000 for Rory is far too much ? that being an understatement as well. We weren?t impressed with his performance during the 0-0 draw on New Year?s Eve and he?s worth far more to Swindon than he could be to us.

The 6ft 2in 23 year-old signed for Swindon in November 2003 from Barnsley for an undisclosed fee, thought to be in the region of £60,000 ? depending on appearances.

At the time, he found it difficult to break up the partnership of Sam Parkin and Tommy Mooney and featured mainly on the subs bench to begin with.

He got sent off after 30 minutes in his first full debut against Rushden but he saw more first team opportunities the following season after Mooney?s departure. He scored 7 goals in 6 games in his first season with Swindon and has averaged a goal every two games in the league for the club. (41 games, 21 goals).

Likely to Sign?

2.5/5 ? Swindon desperately need to hang on to Fallon to vastly improve their chances of survival this season and after having a bid rejected, I can?t see much chance in Fallon joining us this month. Jackett could well fail with Fallon and Holt and could move to look at the likes of Wayne Andrews in the Championship.
