Garry Monk has to ensure that Gylfi Sigurddson comes the other way to soften the blow if Ben Davies leaves to joins Spurs

Speculation is growing that Swansea City could lose their young left back prodigy Ben Davies – with Spurs being the likely destination – and if so – Garry Monk has to ensure that Gylfi Sigurddson comes the other way to soften the blow.

British players’ transfer fees are always inflated, unless it seems, they play for the Swans. Luke Shaw has recently completed an incredible £30m move to Manchester United, but Ben Davies – another young international left back with huge potential, has been linked with a move to White Hart Lane for fee of around a quarter of that – just £8m.

You’ve got to assume that that’s simply the media getting it wrong – which they often do – but the Swans should be holding on for at least half the fee that United paid Southampton for Shaw.

The media believe that there is progress being made with Ben Davies’ move as Mauricio Pochettino continues to build his new Spurs team for the 2014/15 season.

Huw Jenkins and Garry Monk both still have plenty of work to do this Summer, not just completing more signings to join newcomers Fabianski and Gomis, but to discuss the futures of some of their first team players – including Michel Vorm, Ashley Williams and Michu – who have all been linked with moves away from the Liberty Stadium.

If the Swans do lose Ben Davies this Summer, then it is absolutely vital that they bring back former loanee star Gylfi Sigurddson – to soften the blow – not only that of Davies’ departure, but also the likely exit of Michu.

They shouldn’t give in to Spurs and their awkward chairman Levy, but if reports are to be believed they could get themselves a huge bargain in Ben Davies. Again, £15m should be the absolute minimum they let him go for. Spurs want £10m for Sigurddson, so money plus the goalscoring midfielder wouldn’t be such a bad bit of business for the Welsh club.
