Kenny Jackett looks as if he’ll be left with just 3 strikers in January as Peterborough United are hoping to keep Lee Thorpe on permanantly.

The former Bristol City frontman has been unable to get into the starting line-up ahead of Trundle and Akinfenwa and is expected to move at the beginning of 2006.

Although he hasn’t scored a goal yet for the club, he has set up 5 and has formed a good partnership with Danny Crow.

Peterborough’s director of football, Barry Fry said: ‘Mark has identified that he would like Lee on a permanent basis, but with the new transfer regulations I cannot make that happen until January.

‘So we are hoping we can persuade Lee to sign for a couple more months on loan before we can make things permanent.’

Wright said: ‘I’ve tracked Lee for a long time and I’m not the only one – he’s a much sought after striker because he offers a physical presence and good athletic ability.

‘He created three goals at Macclesfield recently and he did well again against Bristol Rovers. He’s already shown us what he can do and I’d love to get him here on a permanent basis.

‘Like everyone else he could do with a goal, but if the team is scoring that’s not a huge problem. My main worry is that other teams will see how well he’s doing for us and they’ll come in with an offer so it’s something we need to sort out quite quickly.’
