Michu’s absence from Swansea City’s Pre-Season US Tour adds to the speculation that he is set to join Italian Seria A side Napoli.

We reported at the end of June here that Napoli appeared to be favourites to sign the attacker, and it’s becoming more and more obvious that the Spaniard will play his football elsewhere next season.

Manager Garry Monk may well have expressed his desire to hold on to Michu recently – but it’s clear that his intentions are to move on.

West Ham United and La Liga champions Atletico Madrid have also been linked, but reports in Italy keep suggesting that it’ll be Napoli who’ll win the race to sign him. Some even say that he’s already passed a medical, while other sources say that manager Rafa Benitez still needs convincing of his injury status. Napoli have apparently inquired about a loan move which doesn’t interest Swansea City.

Michu netted 22 goals in his debut season in the Premier League in 2012/13 – instantly becoming a fans’ favourite, but only managed 6 goals last year in what was an injury-hit campaign. He made a handful of appearances in the last few months of the season under new boss Garry Monk, but his on-going ankle problems prevented him from looking anything like the prolific goalscorer he was the season before.
