We profile former right back Lee Jenkins in ‘Where Are They Now?’
His Time At Swansea
Lee Jenkins started out as a trainee with Swansea before breaking into the first-team under Jan Molby.
In a seven-year spell at the Vetch he made 121 starts in the league and scored 4 goals. He started out as a midfielder under Molby but he suffered a string of bad luck with injuries which resulted in a lack of confidence for the next few seasons.
He returned to a defensive role under Colin Addison and definitely returned to his best and was one of our best performers during that era �” in which we lacked any decent players really!
He was a pacy right back who liked to get forward. He was involved thoroughly in ‘The Great Escape’ in 2002/03 as we battled to avoid relegation out of the Football League.
He was harshly treated in one game at home to Carlisle, a hugely important game against another side battling near the bottom. The ref showed him the red card for handball.
In the final game against Hull, a bad mistake saw Elliot equalise for Hull. But thankfully James Thomas’ hat-trick gave us the vital win.
Where Is He Now?
Lee Jenkins showed potential in 2001/02 to continually play at that level but he failed to lie up to that the following year as Brian Flynn allowed him to join Kidderminster Harriers in December 2003. He stayed there until the end of the season, had a brief spell at Redditch United before joining Conference South side Newport County in October 2005.
An injury lately meant he missed the recent FA Cup first round match against Swansea.
