Swansea City Chairman Huw Jenkins says manager Michael Laudrup is targeting ‘one or two players in all areas’ in the January transfer window.

Jenkins has also confirmed that the Dane will have funds available in the New Year to strengthen the squad.

The chairman was also keen to stress to the media that they’ll be looking to strengthen the squad not weaken it, following reports that a number of clubs are beginning to show an interest in top scorer Michu.

With the £2m bargain-buy joint top goalscorer in the entire Premier League, inevitably the media would speculate about his future at Swansea City in the upcoming transfer window.

Jenkins didn’t mention Michu in particular, but it was obvious that he wants to squad to be strengthened next month, rather than severely weakened, which of course it would be if the popular Spaniard was to be sold.

‘We’ll be looking to strengthen in January, not to weaken our squad,’

‘We’ll make every attempt to make sure that happens.’

Talking about potential signings in the New Year, Jenkins revealed that Laudrup wants to strengthen all outfield areas of the squad:

‘Michael’s after one or two players in all areas – a forward, midfield player and a defender,’

‘We all want a striker. To complement Michu it would be good to get a Dember Ba or Andy Carroll style striker who can push opposition around a bit in the box. Problem is that kind of striker most often comes with the big ego and not the ‘team personality’ we have done so well at recruiting.’
