Tom Butler looks set to stay on at the Liberty Stadium as an appearance clause in his contract allows him a 1-year deal.

The winger has struggled all season to get regular match time with David Cotterill, Nathan Dyer and Cedric van Der Gun all ahead of him in the pecking order. Despite this though, he’s made enough appearances to trigger the clause in his contract, which was going to expire at the end of the season.

Butler told the Evening Post:

‘Getting into the play-offs would mean so much, but the Premier League is the place to be,’

‘Anyone who has played in the Premier League will tell you how great it is to play against the top stars and at the best stadiums in the world.

‘We’ve proved that we are an established Championship side, but this is a great opportunity to reach the next level.

‘Play-off finals are always great spectacles. Winning at Wembley would be the highlights of our careers, but we need to get there first.

‘It would be such a shame if we missed out. It is unbearable thinking about.’

‘I’ve triggered the clause in my contract and I’m really pleased to have done that,’

‘There’s a lot of competition for places in the squad ? out wide in particular ? but I think I’ve done okay considering we have the likes of Nath, Cotts and Cedric.’
