Swansea City AFC.co.uk Comment:

Adebayo Akinfenwa joins his 7th British club after brief spells with Torquay, Doncaster, Rushden, Leyton Orient, Boston and Barry Town. He was out of contract with Torquay at the end of the 2004/05 season and rejected the offer of a new deal.

Despite the interest from a host of League One clubs such as Blackpool, Bristol City, Swindon and Gillingham, the much travelled 23 year old opted for a move to South Wales and signed a 2 year deal with his transfer fee liekly to be determined by a tribunal.

Akinfenwa is a big, strong and pacy striker who scored 16 goals for Torquay last season and quite ironically won the Supporter’s Player of the Year Award 2004/2005 despite the mass amount of negative comments made of the young striker since the news of his move to the Swans.

Many fans of his previous clubs predicted he’d have another short spell with a British club as they feel he is unable to settle in a place for too long.

“I’ve moved on because I want to play at the highest level I can.” he told the Evening Post.

”Wherever I’ve been the fans have taken to me and hopefully that will be the case again. They’ll see that I don’t like to lose, that I don’t like to give the ball away and that I like to be first to everything. Strength is a big part of my game. There won’t be many people in this league or any other who can push me around – and I can play a bit as well.”

‘Bayo’ now hopes he can form a good partnership with Lee Trundle to fire the Swans into the Championship: ”I’m hoping that Lee and I can be tight both on and off the pitch next season and I think we can form a good partnership. He has the tricks and the skills and I have the strength.

”If I can score as many goals as he did last season and he can do the same again, Swansea will be in the Championship.”
