Swansea City goalkeeper Michel Vorm says the confidence is high ahead of tomorrow’s home game against Aston Villa.
Last weekend, Manchester United ended the Swans’ unbeaten start to the season at home, with a 1-0 win, but despite the defeat, Vorm says the team is still full of confidence.
Aston Villa travel to the Liberty Stadium tomorrow looking to bounce back from a 2-0 defeat to Spurs on Monday, with boss Alex McLeish looking for a ‘big reaction’ from his players after a poor performance at White Hart Lane.
Vorm said:
“Our confidence is very high always,”
“It`s high at all times, but it`s even more at home – something feels different and good about playing at the Liberty.
“You look at the way we have played at home so far this season and it shows that.
“There`s a feeling we will not be beaten at home and before every game we try to make sure we keep that mentality.
“We know we lost last weekend but I think in the second half we played how we do normally and we saw even against a team like Man Utd we can play our possession game.
“That says we can do it against every team, especially at home, and if we carry that like we did in the second half against United we can beat everybody that comes here.”
Vorm also said that Villa have got quality attacking players that they’ll have to watch out for, he added:
“You look at the way we have played with possession and had some great performances,”
“But we know sometimes possession can be tricky because teams know they`re not going to have the ball when they play us so they will wait for their opportunities.
“And when you have a player like Darren Bent it is so dangerous. He is a player who scores 15 or 20 goals every season and, like Agbonlahor, has so much quality that if you make a mistake as we did against United they will punish you.
“We have to be careful because even with a lot of possession you still always have to watch out for those kind of players because they only need one chance.
“It means that, although our confidence levels are high, our concentration levels must also be high for 90 minutes. If we can do that, we can beat anybody at home.”
He added: “We have played 12 games at this level now and we know what to expect a bit more – it is not getting easier but we are getting used to it.
“But we cannot relax at all – the wins and the clean sheets have come because of our focus and we must look to do the same again.
“And I would like another clean sheet, but I am happy whether it`s 1-0 or 5-4 as long as we win.”
