Stand-in captain Alan Tate praised the character of the team after they extended their unbeaten run to 6 games after getting a point at Ipswich on Saturday.

The versatile defender believes the team’s strong character will help this season to pick up valuable points when we’re not performing at our best.

Craig Beattie scored his first goal for the club after just 7 minutes but the lead didn’t last long as 8 minutes later, Pablo Counago netted the equaliser.

Despite not leading for very long, Tate believed the team did well to pick up another point, he told the Evening Post:

‘This is a tough place to come because obviously they were desperate for their first win of the season,’

‘That’s when your character comes out — when you’re not at your best but you don’t get beat and you come away with a point away from home.

‘It’s when the hard work isn’t there and you crumble after going 1-0 up and lose 4-1 or 5-1 that you’ve got a problem.

‘That’s what we haven’t done.

‘They say if you win at home and draw away then you’re doing well. We won our last game and got a point today so we’re not doing too badly.

‘It’s unfortunate we didn’t win today, but like I say, a point — especially given the circumstances — isn’t a bad result.’

Swansea City travel to the Hawthorns on Tuesday night to take on Roberto Di Matteo’s West Brom side.
