Swansea City are close to signing playmaking midfielder Hakim Ziyech, according to calciomercato.it.

The Italian football news website exclusively reports this evening that the Swans are ‘very close’ to completing the signing of the 23 year-old Moroccan – who currently plays for Dutch top league side Twente.

There could be substance to this story because Swansea City were linked with the midfielder back in January – with a host of other clubs also believed to be tracking him at the start of the year – including Dortmund, Milan, Leicester, Liverpool and Napoli.

This would be an excellent signing if we can pull this one off. He’s quickly becoming a star to look out for in the future, having made an instant impact at Twente following his move from SC Heerenveen.

Last season, he scored 17 goals in 33 games, plus a further 12 assists – scoring a goal every 174 minutes on average.

Given his form last year and the fact that he has another 2 years remaining on his contract, he could attract a high fee that could be more than 10-12million Euros, but it’s still an excellent price for a player with huge potential.

Below is a stats comparison between Sigurdsson and Ziyech. (average stats per game) Ziyech comes out on top in most categories but he is playing in a less competitive League compared to the Premiership – but you can still see the impact he made last season.
