According to a Goal.com source, Swansea City look set to make a bid for Watford defender Adrian Mariappa.

The Swans look set to join Newcastle United in the race to sign the 25 year-old, with the Magpies linked with a failed bid for the promising centre back.

Watford manager Sean Dyche said Newcastle’s bid, thought to be around £750,000, was nowhere near their asking price. It’s been suggested that Swansea City are likely to offer significantly more, around £3.5m.

The Goal.com source said:

“A bid from Swansea is imminent, they have been showing a strong interest and we could have a bidding war on our hands,”

“Mariappa has made it known that he would like to move to a Premier League club, but he`s not the kind of player who would kick up a fuss.”

The Swans would have to be quick to tie up a deal for Mariappa as the January transfer window closes on Tuesday night.
