Swansea City have signed Brighton striker, Leon Knight for £125,000.
The 23 year old has completed a medical and signed a 2 and a half year contract at 6pm tonight.
He began his career with Chelsea as a trainee before loan spells with QPR, Huddersfield and Sheffield Wednesday. He then signed for Brighton back in August 2003 for £100,000 and has averaged a goal every 3 games during his career.
He only stands 5ft 5in but he can score goals and Chelsea’s Youth Team coach Gary Chivers says we’ve signed a player that’s Premiership quality. He said: ‘I think he is worth a go in the Premiership. I think Leon is as good as Zamora.”
Knight has appeared for England at Under-17, Under-18, Under-19 and Under-20 level and boss Kenny Jackett is delighted with the signing and said: ‘Leon is an exceptionally talented forward whose goal-scoring ability will be a huge asset to the squad.”
With Trundle injured for the next few weeks and us failing to score in the last 2 games, Knight could well kick start our season off again after our winless run of 5 continues.
Knight had a big bust up with Brighton boss Mark McGhee. He made a request to be placed on the transfer list after a furious row on the way to Monday’s match at Southampton.
He was then dropped for the match and said afterwards: “This leaves me with nowhere to go at Brighton. I’m not itching to get away, because I want to do well for the boys and the fans, but I’ve got to think about myself and how I am going to forward my career.
“The only way I can see I can do that now is by leaving Brighton.”
