Shrewsbury Town boss Paul Simpson has ruled out a loan move for Swansea City’s Matty Collins.

Speculation recently has linked the League 2 club with the former Fulham player but Simpson says he’s not looking to strengthen his midfield. Collins however can also play in defence, an area he does want to improve in the January transfer window.

He told Sky Sports:

‘It must be that type of year because he isn’t a name that we have talked about and I am happy with my midfield at the moment,’

‘It is other areas of the field that I am focusing on improving at the minute, so he definitely isn’t a target for this football club.

‘I am trying to add some fresh faces to the squad and I think that it is important to bring in a few to give everyone a bit of life again.

‘We’ve been trying to bring in a defender this week after suffering the loss of Graham Coughlan, but so far that has been rather fruitless.

‘We will continue to work to try and bring somebody in and hopefully that will pay off.’

Sky Sports recently claimed that Collins was set to go out on loan soon with Leyton Orient and Bury being the other clubs they mentioned as being interested in the 23 year-old.
