Wayne Routledge said he was ‘excited’ to be joining Swansea City after completing his move from Newcastle United, signing a three-year contract at the Liberty Stadium.

The Swans beat off competition from Leicester City and Nottingham Forest to sign the 26 year-old for an undisclosed fee- thought to be worth around £2m.

Vital Swansea confirmed the news last night dismissing rumours that there was a problem with the medical, but his signing wasn’t officially revealed until 5pm this afternoon.

Routledge says it’ll be tough in the Premier League but he’s looking forward to the challenge:

‘I’m looking forward to the challenge,’

‘It’s taken a couple of days to get everything agreed, but I’m excited about getting started.

‘I’ve had a good chat with the manager (Brendan Rodgers) and he really impressed me. I had heard a lot of good things about him and the chat only reinforced my belief that moving to Swansea was the right thing to do.

‘Having watched Swansea last season, I think everyone would agree that they were the best footballing side in the Championship.

‘It’s going to be a difficult first season in the Premier League; it’s going to be tough. But everyone is confident and looking forward to it. After all, playing in the Premier League is what you dream of.

‘I’m excited about it.’
