Brendan Rodgers praised Stephen Dobbie for his man of the match performance in yesterday’s 3-0 home win against Doncaster Rovers.

The Scottish striker was given a rare start as an attacking midfielder and he impressed – giving Rodgers food for thought for the remaining 14 games.

“He was excellent,”

“I thought he was terrific and some of the combination play in the early part of the game was outstanding. He brings that and I`ve always said he`s got a great talent.

He drifts around and he`s really effective when he has got space and links well with good players, and we`ve got many of those. I brought him off to give him that round of applause because I thought he deserved that.”

Rodgers also praised the team performance:

“The performance today was excellent,”

“It shows the progress we`ve made. Doncaster have got a few injuries but you`ve still got to do the job. I thought that offensively and defensively we were very good, but there is always room for improvement and that`s what we are always demanding.

“I`ve got to give credit to the players though, they were excellent. Ashley Williams and Alan Tate were outstanding and you can see why Scott Sinclair scores so many goals. When he gets in the box he has the desire of a striker and to have 19 goals as a wide player says a lot.”

“He was excellent as Rodgers says. We’ve needed someone like Dobbie up there to help create chances and support the lone striker and hopefully he’ll play in that position more often.”
