Rodgers: Lets Not Get Carried Away

Brendan Rodgers says his side are not getting too carried away after today’s 3-1 win away at Ipswich Town, which puts our promotion race back on track.

The Swans have suffered a drop in form recently, and it was vital today that we got back to winning ways after a disappointing 2-1 defeat away at Portsmouth last week.

Ipswich took the lead early in the second half but Craig Beattie got a quick equaliser, and Joe Allen soon followed with a strike from close range that gave us the lead.

Beattie then netted his second late on, and what a goal it was. From just outside the corner of the penalty area, the striker found the net with a superb shot that beat the home side’s stranded goalkeeper.

The 3 points puts us level on points with Cardiff prior to today’s 3pm kick offs, but Rodgers insists that they’re not getting too carried away:

‘We are certainly not getting carried away, and the mark of our performances is testament to how hard the players have been working,’

‘They work very, very hard everyday, and this is the rewards that we are getting.

‘I’ve always felt that if we are up and around the top-six come February or March, then we will see where we are at. To get the result today was a great win.’

‘I’ve just had a look on the replay and its one of those that if you’re at home, you’re disappointed if you don’t get it,’ added Rodgers of the penalty appeal.

‘Gower was just coming across and there was a little contact – he has touched him.

‘There has been contact and, maybe if the player had stayed on his feet, he might have gone through and had a chance on goal.

‘I think from Roy’s perspective I would be disappointed if I didn’t get it.’

‘We felt that we needed something different in the game. Craig Beattie is excellent when crosses are coming into box.

‘But we didn’t do that so much and we were just about to make the change. Obviously we got the free-kick and he got the header on it and got us the goal.

‘Once you get the goal, that ups your confidence level and the second goal was absolutely magnificent.’
