QPR defender Karl Henry said Swansea City winger Wayne Routledge deserved to get sent off in today’s 1-1 draw.

Henry had gone in with a hard tackle on Routledge and the winger showed his frustration at the dangerous challenge but there was a lack of any real contact to warrant a straight red card from the referee.

Manager Garry Monk says they’ll appeal the decision, but Henry insists that he deserved to get sent off with just 4 minutes remaining:

‘There were at least two occasions before when he’s had swipes at me. He kicked me nowhere near the ball, and it was his own fault.

‘I’d gone in for the tackle and I caught him. As I went to get up he’s certainly shoved me back down – and I didn’t make a meal of it.

‘The ref deemed that as a red because you can’t do that sort of thing, and I certainly didn’t react that way. You react, and you risk getting sent off.’

Henry also added that he felt it was 2 points dropped for QPR after conceding an injury time equaliser against ten men:

‘It was two points lost today. To concede that late on in the game when they were down to 10 men, you could see some of our players were absolutely knackered by the end.

‘Everyone ran themselves into the ground, and tt takes its toll. Gaps start to appear and you can’t keep plugging them like you did for 60 or 70 minutes.

‘We’re disappointed to have got that close and not got the three points. But not losing keeps morale high.’
