Swansea City manager Garry Monk felt his side produced one of the most complete performances of the season to beat QPR 2-0 at the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Swans dominated from start to finish, limiting Redknapp’s side to just one decent chance on goal as Fabianski made his only save of the match during the first half.

QPR were hopeful of hanging on for a point, but the arrival of Nathan Dyer helped create the vital opener. The winger brought the ball forward, passing it into Bony who released Ki down the left, and his left footed shot from an acute angle found it’s way past Robert Green and in off the far post.

Wayne Routledge added a second just five minutes later, assisted by Nathan Dyer, guaranteeing the three points with 7 minutes remaining.

The Swans left it late to get on the scoresheet, but it was what they deserved, but the second half proved quite difficult against another side who looked to defend deep.

Monk said:

“People talk about the Man United and Arsenal big wins but I look at the details and I felt that was one of our most complete performances of the season.

“For 90 minutes we controlled the whole game, our tempo and passing, attacking play and defending. It was the most complete I’ve seen it this season and it’s very pleasing – and two goals, a clean sheet and three points all very much warranted against QPR side in good form.

“We set our stall out from the outset but we came up against a keeper in great form – some of the saves Rob Green made were fantastic and he didn’t deserve to be on the losing side the way he played.’

Like on Saturday in the 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace, Swansea City dominated, but missed a host of chances. It was a similar case on Tuesday night, but thankfully they continued to dominate and took their opportunities late on, Monk added:

“The message was to keep on moving the ball quickly and keep our attacking play as sharp as possible.

We felt that if we created chances the way we did in the first half then hopefully we would take one or two and secure the game. We were able to do that and deserved at least the two goals and the clean sheet.

Monk says he’s very proud of the team and he must be delighted to see all the hard work paying off:

“And I’m very proud of the way we’re working and what we’re trying to achieve. We’ve put in hours of hard work – tactically, mentally, physically – on what we’re trying to do and we feel we’re in a good moment. We thrive on it and we’re on our biggest points tally we’ve had since we’ve been in Premier League and we’ll try to push on for the rest of the season.”

Talking about goalscorer Ki, who had failed to score a goal in his first season at Swansea, Monk felt that it was about time that he got a goal:

“I mentioned to him the night before the game it was about time he scored. It was a great finish but our link play was great and everyone is contributing in the team. There were two fantastic finishes; it’s what we’ve been working on and important as a team to have threats from everywhere.”
