Swansea City manager Garry Monk says he’s willing to work ‘all summer’ to be a success at the Liberty Stadium.

The 35 year-old, who took over from previous boss Michael Laudrup in February – his first ever experience as a coach, does not lack any passion, desire and commitment whatsoever as he prepares for his first full season in charge.

Rather than relaxing after a long, tough season, Monk told Wales Online that the work starts now, as he has big decisions to make on who else should stay or go in his squad, following the departures of loanee pair Roland Lamah and Alvaro Vazquez, plus strikers Leroy Lita and David Ngog.

Before being confirmed as the club’s new manager, Monk had already started drawing up a list of transfer targets.

Monk told the press about how the club had to tell former manager Roberto Martinez to take a break as he was a workaholic, and it sounds like Monk could be the same.

“Just because I`ve been given a longer-term deal as manager doesn`t mean I start to relax,”

“I know this is where the real hard work starts.

“It`s been a hectic time over the last three months and I am thankful to now get a summer to plan and a pre-season to prepare, which gives you an advantage instead of coming in like I have done with the group under these circumstances. Hopefully it will be a better way of doing it.

“But it does mean putting things in place over the summer and doing it properly, like I said I would when I came in. If that means working all summer then I am going to work all summer.”

Monk added that he’ll try and get a week off to spend with his family, but it looks like most of his time in the Summer will be spent preparing himself and building and improving the squad for Swansea City’s fourth season in the Premier League.

“I am going to try and get a week with the family.

“The club used to make Roberto go and I can see why.

“The work has to be done if you are to do it properly, or how I and maybe Roberto feel is the proper way, you have to do what you have to do. If it means working day and night this summer I will do it. I have always said I will do it properly.

“The plan once the season ended was to come in and work as hard as I can.

“My family have been great with me, they understand that this was and is going to be a very busy period.

“They know I have one shot at this in terms of the opportunity I have been given and I have to make the most of it and they are very supportive. Obviously family is the most important thing and I have to make time for them but in terms of preparation this is a very important time.

“With newborn twins it would be like a working holiday anyway but I will always make time for them.”
