Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp slammed his side’s defensive display as they allowed a severely out-of-form Swansea City to net 3 goals against them on their own soil.

In a frantic opening to the second half, Llorente stabbed home our opener after Liverpool failed to clear a corner, before heading in Carroll’s cross from the left.

The Reds got their act together quickly though, as they were only losing for 17 minutes, as Firmino nodded in before an excellent strike made it 2-2 on 69 minutes.

You’d have fancied Liverpool to go on and win the game with another 21 minutes remaining, but Sigurdsson restored our lead just 5 minutes later following good build-up play involving Leroy Fer and Tom Carroll.

Liverpool dominated the vast majority of the game, with 74% possession, but Swansea’s defensive organisation and clear game plan to soak up pressure paid off to give Paul Clement his first win as Swansea manager.

Klopp simply couldn’t understand how Llorente had so much time and space to score his brace early in the second half:

“The most disappointing moment was their third – there was nearly everything wrong around this goal,” said the Liverpool boss.

“It started with a long ball, our reaction was not good. We couldn’t switch back into a defensive mode.

“That was our biggest mistake. We were passive. They took their opportunity. There was a Swansea player free in the box and it makes no sense.

“We had enough players around the challenges, but nobody in the challenges. That makes no sense. I saw no challenge.

“It was a big mistake. Not of one player, there were a lot of players involved. It was really disappointing.”

“We showed again that when we are really on track then we are a strong side that can create chances and score goals.

“But the defending around all three goals was not good enough. 100%. That’s a very important part of the game. It was very disappointing today.”

After sitting at the very bottom of the Premier League this morning, the Swans are now – incredibly – two points clear of the drop zone in 17th place. Next up is Southampton at home on January 31st.
