Swansea City head coach Paul Clement praised debutants Martin Olsson and Tom Carroll after today’s 3-2 win away at Liverpool.

The two players completed their moves to the club earlier this week and Clement brought them straight into the starting line-up for today’s tough trip against a Liverpool side who were looking to close the gap on League leaders Chelsea.

Olsson provided some much needed attacking quality at left back to support Gylfi Sigurdsson who returned to his wide role in a 4-3-3. Tom Carroll joined Jack Cork and Leroy Fer in the centre of midfield.

Clement praised the pair’s contribution, as well as Carroll’s contribution to create Llorente and Swansea’s second goal of the game, giving us a 2-goal lead early in second half.

Tom Carroll was also involved in the crucial winner, just 5 minutes after Liverpool levelled the scores at 2-2. He tried to work his way through a crowd of Liverpool players near the edge of the penalty area, before the box took a fortunate deflection into the path of the unmarked Sigurdsson to finish past Minoglet.

Clement said:

“I thought they both did really well,”

“Martin is athletic and can get forward and he is a good footballer.

“And Tom showed what a good footballer he is. I was a little worried that he might not last the whole game as he had not played 90 minutes for a long time, but he showed how fit he is.

“He got around the pitch and made a wonderful contribution to the second goal.”
