Jenkins Confident With Laudrup Appointment

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins says he’s confident that the club can continue to move forward under new manager Michael Laudrup.

After links with Graeme Jones and Ian Holloway, the Swans finally have their man – two weeks after Brendan Rodgers left to join Liverpool.

Jenkins has been in Cyprus recently on holiday but the search for a manager continued as he held talks with Laudrup there before the appointment was confirmed earlier today.

The club say they are delighted with the appointment and are confident that they can continue to progress under the 48 year-old.

‘Michael has a clear picture and understanding of what we require at Swansea City to build on all the good work and strides we have made over the last few years as a football club.

‘There is no doubt about his standing as one of the game’s greatest footballers, but we also see the qualities he has as a manager.

Swansea City will be looking to avoid the common ‘second season syndrome’, whereby many newly promoted teams enjoy a successful opening year before struggling the next. Former boss Brendan Rodgers said he was going to look for new ideas this Summer to avoid the team becoming predictable to the opposition, and Jenkins says the same. Laudrup will surely tweak the side slightly to suit his own tactics and ideas, as he looks to build his coaching team and playing squad.
