Reports suggest that Dutch side FC Twente are looking to cash in on Swansea City target Luic Castaignos

Reports suggest that Dutch side FC Twente are looking to cash in on Swansea City target Luic Castaignos as they need to raise funds to ease their financial troubles.

According to the Dutch based website Soccer News, FC Twente are looking to raise significant funds this Summer by selling some of their biggest stars.

We posted an article here last Summer reporting that the club had confirmed that the Swans had a fee of around £6.5m agreed for the striker.

Talks never progressed with the Swans and it later emerged that he apparently preferred a move to Benfica over the Swans – but in the end, a move never happened.

His contract expires in 2016 and you wonder if FC Twente will be able to attract a similar bid for the player this Summer.

Soccer News reports that Castaignos is among the likes of Renato Tapia, Bilal Ould-Chikh, Jesus Corona and Andreas Bjelland as the most likely players they could sell to raise the most money.

They said:

Twente wants to begin selling at least ten million euros. ‘I am optimistic that we can achieve this transfer ambition,’ says Van den Belt at Voetbal International .

There’s nothing to say that the Swans are still looking to sign him, but you’d be somewhat surprised if he suddenly was no longer a target.

The club often pursue their targets for up to 12 months or more. January signing Jack Cork was a long term target over a number of seasons, while a few other players in Europe are still on the radar after they failed to sign them last Summer.

Manager Garry Monk is looking to sign a striker at the end of the season and it would be a surprise if he wasn’t looking to take advantage of FC Twente’s need to sell the striker on the cheap.

This season the striker has scored 10 goals in 27 appearances in the Eredivisie.

Definitely one to keep an eye on over the Summer…
