After starting his first match since March, striker Craig Beattie is now looking to kick-start his Swansea City career having spent most of his time here sidelined with injuries.

The Scottish frontman was in the first team on Tuesday night as we lost 2-0 to Wigan Athletic in the Carling Cup, and he went close to scoring but his goal was ruled out for offside.

Beattie told the Evening Post that he is ‘desperate’ to impress manager Brendan Rodgers:

‘I really want to kick on from here,’

I’ve not had an easy time since I came down to Swansea ? it’s my first start since March.

‘I spent the majority of last season in the stands for whatever reason and unfortunately I picked up a nasty injury at the end of pre-season.

‘First of all I am just delighted to be back in the squad and back playing football games again.

‘But I’ve worked really hard to get back and I am desperate to impress the manager.’

With loanee Frank Nouble being recalled by West Ham United, Beattie should now get a better opportunity to playing more games for the Swans – providing he can stay injury free.

He added:

‘I felt pretty good out there [vs Wigan],’

‘Quality-wise I know I’ve got more to give the team and I just hope I get the opportunity to show the gaffer what I’ve got.

‘I wanted to do my bit for the team at Wigan.

‘We wanted to press them high up the pitch and I had to set the tone for that.

‘Even when I came off at 65 minutes, fitness-wise I felt really good.

‘I’m just desperate for a run of games now, but it is hard because I know the boys have done really well.’
