In our recent poll, 67% of Vital Swansea readers voted that they want Stephen Kingsley as our first choice left back next season.

The young Scot, who also signed a new long-term contract this week along with Jay Fulton and Adam King, impressed at the end of last season, making 2 starts – 1 of which at West Ham where he setup Ayew’s goal with a stunning low cross.

Many Swansea fans haven’t been happy with Taylor at left back – mainly because of his very limited attacking ability. He struggles to form a good attacking partnership with Jefferson Montero, and his delayed play and decision making can sometimes hold the winger back during games.

It was also interesting to see though from the poll that the vast majority of voters were happy to see Taylor stay on as back-up, rather than wanting to see the club sign a new left back.

15% wanted Taylor to remain as first choice, with Kingsley as back-up. Only 9% wanted to see a new left back signed this Summer.

Neil Taylor has enjoyed an excellent spell in France with Wales at Euro 2016, and despite his goal against Russia, it doesn’t seem to have swayed many Swans fans’ opinion on the full back.

Kingsley is still young and inexperienced, but despite a lack of playing time, he came in at the end of last season and blended in effortlessly. His excellent run and assist for Ayew’s goal at West Ham (watch above) just shows that.

Will Kingsley start ahead of Taylor at Burnley in the opening game of the season? Who knows, but the majority of us want to see a more attacking full back down that side. The question is, will/should we strengthen at right back?
