Brendan Rodgers is keen to get his key players under longer contracts and it appears that Ashley Williams is next to enter talks over a new deal at the Liberty Stadium.

After news this week that Nathan Dyer, Joe Allen and Garry Monk were in discussions to sign new deals, centre back Ashley Williams could follow suit as it’s been reported that the club have begun discussions with his representatives about a new longer deal at Swansea City to last beyond his current contract which expires in 2013.

Ashley Williams’ agent Jamie Moralee said:

‘Ashley is under contract for two more years, but we are in talks and early negotiations with the club to extend his deal by another year or two.

‘He has earned the right to play in the Premier League through his performances and he wants to be part of this team.

‘There have been other clubs looking at him and there have been a couple of bids. But he is happy with his football in Wales and with Swansea.

‘Ashley is fully committed to the club and both parties hope to sit down and progress the talks. We hope something will be sorted out in the next few days, if not, the next couple of weeks.

‘It’s high on the agenda and signing a new long-term contract would be the perfect scenario for Ashley.’
