Sheffield Wednesday’s £750,000 bid for Trundle was rejected, but will they up their bid for our star striker?
The Sun today believe the Championship club will up their bid to £1 million and whether they do or not, I don’t believe that will be enough either to get the Swansea board thinking.
Following their play off win last season, Wednesday are struggling at the foot of the Championship as there is a possibility, the two clubs could be in opposite leagues next season.
Lee Trundle’s worth to us is a hell of a lot more than he would be to any interested club. He’s involved in around 85% of the merchandise sold in the club shop and has scored more than 20 goals in the two full seasons he’s been with us.
I’m sure this bid will be the first of many as the transfer window opens in a few months but I don’t think a club will offer enough (£1.5m plus) to force the board to accept. Firstly, he is unproven at a higher level than League One while the money offered for Lee could be spent on a striker, proven at the level required.
As we all know Trundle has to be playing football week in week out and will be far from pleased to move to a club and to be placed on the bench. Depending on our activity in the transfer window, our squad may not be strong enough this enough to win back to back promotions but we have a good enough squad to build and improve on for next year.
Just 4 years ago, we sold Stuart Roberts, our best player at the time for £100,000 and now we are able to turn down our highest ever received bid of £750,000. It certainly shows the ambition within the board to keep our ebst players for the future and with fans running the club, its success that comes first rather than how much money we could pocket.
