Swansea City may consider new signing Modou Barrow as their fourth winger option following his recent arrival from Ostersunds.

The winger, who can also play as a striker, arrived from the Swedish side last month before the transfer window closed, and has teamed up with the under-21s side.

He scored on his debut and also received further praise from under-21s manager Chris Llewelyn for another impressive display in the 2-1 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday.

“We were creating chances and Modou Barrow looked very promising on the right wing. He was a constant threat. But we did not get going in the second half.”

“Sheffield Wednesday changed their shape and, although we altered things to put more pressure on them, we failed to bring the same tempo and attitude that we did in the first half.

“It was sloppy game management from the boys in the second half, and we were made to pay for it. “They have made mistakes in this game which they will certainly learn from. “But now we must ensure that those mistakes are eradicated before our next game.”

Manager Garry Monk stated in August that he wanted two players in each position, but he is currently short on numbers at right wing and left back in particular.

Barrow will obviously need a good run of under-21’s games to gain experience and confidence to prepare himself for a possible leap into Premier League football.

Unless there are injuries to two of the three wingers currently available, Barrow will continue to feature for the under-21s team, but it wouldn’t be too surprising if he was forced to move up to the senior squad mid-way through the season if other winger replacements aren’t brought in in the meantime.

Young left-back Stephen Kingsley would also be forced to step up if Neil Taylor picked up an injury, but possibly as a bench option only with Monk probably preferring to use Tiendalli.
