Swansea City defensive duo Kevin Austin and Alan Tate battle it out to replace Marcos Painter at Crewe on Saturday.

‘I’d prefer to see Tate there, even if it is his wrong side.’

The left back will serve a one match ban this weekend after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season.

Roberto Martinez will have to choose between Austin and Tate to replace Painter on Saturday and the Swansea boss says he has faith in whoever comes in to replace him, he told the Evening Post:

‘It’s a blow to lose Marcos because he has been doing very well in recent weeks,”

‘But now he needs to use his break to refresh himself after a hectic couple of weeks.

‘But I have faith in whoever comes in to replace him. Everyone in the squad is prepared to step in to cover injury, suspension or loss of form.

‘Now I’ll just have to assess who I feel is the best person is to come in.”

“Kevin Austin is a model professional. He is always ready. We know he can play centre-half or left-back and that is a real bonus to a manager.

“It’s the same as far as Alan Tate is concerned, and he can also operate in midfield so he is a versatile player for us.”
