Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup was delighted to see number 1 goalkeeper Michel Vorm sign a new 4-year contract at the club.

The club received a massive boost this week with the confirmation that the Dutchman had put pen to paper on a new 4-year deal at the Liberty Stadium.

Vorm, who has 9 international caps for Holland, has attracted the attention of some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs – including Manchester United, while Liverpool have been linked with the shot stopper since Brendan Rodgers’ move to Anfield.

Laudrup now hopes that other players in the squad follow Vorm and sign new contracts:

‘I hope other important players will do like Michel,’

‘It’s important for the team [and] for the club to try and get new deals with the important players.

‘Each case is different. I don’t think we can go inside the head of the players but I think it [Vorm’s signing] gives security for the others.

‘Each of them has to renew it on their conditions.’

‘He’s a very important player. A goalkeeper is a very important player in a team [and] he’s already shown his importance,’

‘I’m very happy he’s continuing with us. It means he believes in this project with this club and let’s hope other important players will do the same.’

Signing from Utrecht for just £1.5m in August 2011, Vorm has proved to be one of the club’s best signings in recent years, and plays a vital role in the Swansea City team.
