Alan Tate says he hopes to end his career with Swansea City after signing a new 4-year contract at the club.

The former Manchester United trainee as always been hailed by the fans as being a loyal player to the Swans so it’s no surprise that he wants to end his career at the Liberty Stadium.

29 year-old Tate put pen to paper on a new 4-year deal with the option of a further 12 months depending on appearances.

‘I’m delighted to sign the contract because it shows the club have a lot of faith in me,’

‘It will take me well into my thirties and who knows what will happen beyond that, although obviously I’d like to stay even longer.

‘It will depend on injuries and form, but I would love to finish my career at Swansea and, with a bit of luck, I hope that could happen.

‘I was at Manchester United as a kid, but I never played for the first team there, so Swansea feels like the only club I have played for.

‘I would love to be able to say I was a one-club man at the end of my career.’

Alan Tate is sidelined for the next 6 months or so after breaking his leg in a ‘bizarre’ golfing incident.

He added:

‘We’ve been talking about a contract for a while and then with the injury things got delayed a little bit,’

‘I was meant to sign before I got injured, but then it got put on the back-burner.

‘Then it was deadline day, which held things up again, but the new contract was never under threat because of the injury.

‘The club could see that it was an unfortunate accident which no-one could have expected.’

‘I’d love to stay here until I finish, but you always want to be in and around the starting side each week,’ he said.

‘Hopefully that will be the case, because I will be happy.’

Alan Tate has been a part of Swansea City since 2002 when he first joined us on loan from Premier League champions Manchester United. He later joined permanently in 2004 after a second loan spell and has made just over 300 starts in all competitions for the club, scoring 5 goals.
