Swansea Youth were held to a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth at St Helens on Saturday.

Youth boss David Moss expected a tough game as both sides had won both their games in the Puma Youth Alliance League.

Moss was without midfielder Jaz Richards but he saw the returns of Chris Jones and goalkeeper Callum Hawthorne.

The home side took the lead after 38 minutes as Matthew Wright went through on goal and calmly slotted the ball past the Bournemouth keeper.

The lead didn’t last long however as the visitors equalised 7 minutes into the second half. Jamie Davidson had a shot inside the penalty area that beat the keeper to put the scores level.

The Swans were then handed a big boost as Bournemouth’s Josh McQuaid was sent off for kicking out at Gavin Jones.

The visitors held their nerve in the final 24 minutes to hang onto a point as both James Burgin and Oliver Hewitt-Fisher had chances late on to snatch a win for Moss’ side.

David Moss’ Post Match Comments:

‘Overall I’m really disappointed.’

‘I’ve got really high expectations for this team and whenever we don’t win I’m not pleased. I don’t mind not winning if we do things in the right manner, but today we didn’t.

‘We had to change the shape of the team because Jaz Richards was injured and Chris Jones was playing for us. That didn’t help our cause because we’re used to playing one way, but we should be good enough to adapt to it.

‘The way we want to play is to control and keep the ball and have a bit of structure about the team. That’s what disappointed me – we were waiting for things to happen, but you’ll never get anywhere playing like that.’

Swansea Line-up: David Cornell, Daniel Sheehan, Keiran Howard, Karl Keogh, James Burgin, Jamie Grimes, Dion Chambers, Gavin Jones, Chris Jones, Matthew Wright, Oliver Hewitt-Fisher. Subs not used: Jaz Richards, David Kingdom, Casey Thomas, Ashley Johns, Callum Hawthorne (GK).
