Swansea City striker Bafetimbi Gomis is strongly being linked with a move to Crystal Palace in January, but surely he won’t be allowed to leave what with Wilfried Bony away on international in the New Year.

Rumours started this month that Crystal Palace were very keen to sign Gomis, who has struggled to get first team football since his free transfer in the Summer from French Division 1 side Lyon.

The speculation over the Frenchman’s striker is heating up this week, with mainly tabloid newspapers suggesting that he is closer to the Liberty Stadium exit door.

However, none of the sources publishing these stories can really be relied upon for such transfer news, but what we do know is that the player isn’t happy at the club.

Wilfried Bony has continued off from last season, scoring consistently this season and Gomis will always find it tough to get game time whilst the Ivorian is still at the club.

But, Bony was in a similar position when he first joined in 2013. Manager Michael Laudrup was apparently not his biggest fan. He started off slowly, he soon got his critics as some fans lacked patience with their recordsigning.

But after a slow start to his Swansea City career, things picked up at the turn of the year and goals started to come week in week out at the turn of 2014. That form continued, making him the highest goalscorer in the Premier League during the calendar year.

You have to wonder whether it’ll ever work out for Gomis at Swansea City. Wilfried Bony is the main man at the Liberty Stadium and hopefully he will be for some time yet. Can the club keep Gomis happy with Bony still with the Swans? It’s hard to see how, especially when the Swans play a 4-2-3-1 system which is setup to suit Bony far better compared to the Frenchman who is still trying to get used to his new team.

It’s not quite clicked for Gomis yet, but hopefully things can improve for the striker in the New Year when he’ll be far more involved….or will he? Surely the club can’t afford to lose a striker in the January transfer window?
