Rodgers: Swansea Players Deserve All The Credit

Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers paid tribute to his players following their 3-2 win against Arsenal.

The Swans boss was obviously absolutely delighted with such an excellent performance and victory against a quality side like Arsenal.

The positives he and his players can take from today’s win is almost endless. The fact that we showed better finishing quality in the final third, and not to mention the impact new loan signing Gylfi Sigurdsson made when he came on at the start of the second half.

If you forget some of poor defending at times that allowed Arsenal some good pace in front of goal, it was a class performance that you could barely pick out the criticisms from it. Whilst Arsenal lacked some fighting spirit and endeavour, the Swans had it in abundance as they came back and recovered from the early goal to win a closely fought match.

Rodgers told BBC Sport:

‘That’s the resilience that’s in the team. There’s a wonderful resolve within the group. They’re a very tight group,’

‘We work hard every day in relation to improving the performance level and in pressure moments.’

‘The players deserve all the credit – the courage they showed to keep showing for the ball, to keep playing under severe pressure and against top players.

‘And remember where a lot of these players have come from. Over seven of these players have played in the Championship and even below that.

‘So for them to go and continue with our style, which we know is affective, against one of the top teams in European football, makes it even more pleasing.’

‘We were talked about as having the swagger without the substance but hopefully over these opening months we’ve shown that we’re going to be here to fight,’

‘We’ll play how we want to play and not how other people perceive us and how they want us to play.

‘We have a game we’re very proud of and we know it gets us results. We’ll hopefully continue to improve that side of our game.’
