Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that they have increased their bid for Newcastle United winger Wayne Routledge.

The Swans have been linked with the player in the last week, but they face competition from Leicester City who have been reported as the favourites to sign him, while QPR have also expressed an interest.

Rodgers spoke briefly to Swansea Sound after today’s friendly match at Port Talbot about Routledge. He didn’t say too much, but he did confirm we have increased our bid and the two clubs are still in talks about the 26 year-old.

Routledge played on loan at QPR last season and scored 5 goals in 19 appearances for the Loftus Road club.

Wages could be an issue for the Swans in their attempts to sign him, as I’m sure QPR and Leicester will be able to offer him more attractive personal terms, but we’ll see how this story develops this week.
