Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino felt his side deserved to beat Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

Harry Kane opened the scoring with less than four minutes on the clock, leaping above Angel Rangel to nod home from a corner at the far post.

Bony had missed Swansea’s best chances to get an equaliser before half time, but he got his goal shortly after the restart. Rangel lobbed the ball over for Routledge to chase down the right. The winger picked out the striker to find the net at the second attempt.

Thanks to the confidence-boosting equaliser, the Swans took the initiative, pressed Spurs back into their own half as they went in search of a winner. Chances came and went, they wasted opportunities before being dealt a late sucker punch.

Eriksen curled in a low winner in the 89th minute when Jazz Richards delayed a clearance before giving it straight to his ex team-mate Ben Davies to provide the assist.

Spurs only looked really threatening during good, bright spells in the first half but they were forced to defend for long periods.

Despite that, Pochettino felt his side deserved maximum points from the game:

‘In football you need to score and we deserved to win because we scored. In the last few games we deserve more and didn’t score,’ he said.

‘We deserved more in the first half but then we conceded a goal and Swansea pushed us.

‘We defended deep and maybe Swansea played better in this period, but in the last 10 minutes we were always alive.’

‘The character is very important, to show and fight in every action,’

‘We are playing the right way and when you arrive in a different club with different players you always need time to try and put your philosophy on the squad.

‘I am happy with the players, we are showing the character we want and we got the reaction we want.

‘We have a lot of good players and young talent and players like Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane are very important to us.’
