Opposition Focus: Sheffield United

As Roberto Martinez prepares for a tough season ahead in the Coca Cola Championship we will at Vital Swansea turn our attentions to our new opposition. Vital Sheffield United editor Ben Shepherd now gives us the low-down on his clubs chances next term.

2)How Long have you been supporting your club?

For as long as I remember, the first time I ever really remember a result would be drawing at Arsenal in the FA Cup then beating them in the replay..the following round we played Aston Villa and lost 1-0 Dwight Yorke scored a penalty after Savo Milosevic was fouled by Alan Kelly. The pitch was surrounded by snow.. Then the first match i went to, was the same season, we played West Brom at home and lost 2-1, Mitch Ward put us 1-0 up with a penalty.

.3) How Do you rate your chances this season?

5th. I think despite the first game, we’ll start ok, then when injuries and suspensions kick in through the winter we’re going to struggle at the back, as we have only Ehigou to cover at Centre Half. 3 centre backs is simply not enough, and loans will just disrupt the team and defensive unit. Aside from that however, we should be ok.

4) What do you think of Swansea City can they cause an upset?

Last time we played Swansea they beat us 3-0 in the Cup, against a very capable United 11. I think Forest will do the best out of the promoted teams, and I’d like Doncaster to do well, but I think Swansea wil be looking at about a safe 16th, which would be an achievement considering their first season after a promotion.

5) Who do you think is your clubs and Swansea’s biggest threat?

Birmingham, it’s so hard to look beyond the strength that they have. The likes of Larsson & McFadden in the Championship is ridiculous, they are quality players. Apart from the obvious ones such as them, wolves etc, I can see Coventry pushing for the Play-offs, Chris Coleman is a very good manager who United looked at, and the signing of Freddy Eastwood could prove very worthwile.

6) What places can you recommend visiting fans go to i.e. pubs, hotels and places to visit?

In sheffield? There’s plenty of places to go in Sheffield. The peace gardens are lovely especially in nice weather, people sunbathe, and play in the fountains. Just next to these is the Winter Gardens, which is an excellent place full of wildlife & nature.
