Swansea City manager Garry Monk thought his side ‘played OK’ despite losing 4-1 at Liverpool, somehow I just can’t agree…

It was one of their worst performances of the season, down there with the lacklustre show away at West Ham a few weeks ago.

Garry Monk has proved to be an honest manager when it comes to commenting about his side’s performances to the media, but for the first time this season, I’d say he’s being very kind to his players after a very sloppy and poor performance at Anfield.

They struggled to cope with Liverpool’s quick attacking play early on in the game and you were expecting them to concede a goal before half time and they did.

They were fortunate to only be a goal down at the break, but the horror show really started in the second half that saw a goal come off Lallana in an attempted clearance by Fabianski before Shelvey headed into his own net from a corner.

Their general play was lacking. The passing was sloppy, possession was conceded far too often and there were signs that they were lacking stamina and the ability to cope with only playing a few days ago.

Despite all these problems, Monk felt his side played ok:

‘I think we played OK. We had the most possession, we created chances, but the mistakes we made cost us the game.

‘You get punished at this level. We performed OK but those mistakes cost us.

‘Lukasz Fabiasnki has been fantastic this season but every player makes a mistake. You lose as a collective.’
