Swansea City manager Garry Monk has told the media after the game at QPR that he will appeal Wayne Routledge’s red card.

The winger was badly tackled and showed his frustration at the dangerous challenge on him, but there was such minimal contact – just a tussle – you have to wonder what on earth he was sent off for.

Even QPR boss Harry Redknapp didn’t know what Routledge had done to be shown a red card.

It wasn’t the only controversial moment in the game involving a refereeing decision. It came very early in the game when QPR goalkeeper Rob Green clearly handled the ball outside the area when Routledge was through on goal and looking to get around the shot stopper.

The Swans have been dealt their fair share of awful refereeing decisions that has been a number of players pick up undeserved bans. Only Monday did Jonjo Shelvey pick up a 4-match ban after an apparent elbow on Liverpool defender Can, but Monk defended his player insisting it wasn’t his intention to elbow the player, rather than to try and shrug him off who was holding him back.

Defender Federico Fernandez had a red card rescinded in a Cup game at Anfield earlier in the season, while Angel Rangel also had a one-match ban for getting booked twice away at Sunderland.

Like for Fernandez, surely Routledge’s red card for apparent violent conduct will be rescinded and he’ll avoid what would be 3-match suspension.
