Club skipper Garry Monk played 45 minutes in yesterday’s Reserves game against Cardiff after 7 months out with a knee injury.

The centre back is now less than 2 weeks away from making a return and manager Roberto Martinez said: ‘I’m glad to say Garry came through okay,”

‘If it was up to Garry he would make himself available for Saturday’s trip to Tranmere.

‘But we cannot afford to rush him back too soon. I’d like to see him ease his way back again over the next two weeks.”

The Swans took a 2-goal lead in the game against our rivals courtesy of a brace from young striker Chris Jones.

Shaun MacDonald also featured in the game as he looks to be on his way back after a long injury.

Chris McDonald and Jamal Easter scored a goal each in the second half though as the match ended in a draw.

Monk commented on the game and said: ”I did everything that I had to do. I won my headers and my tackles and we were 2-0 up at half-time – job done,”

”I have worked hard for this day and I have to thank the physio team at the club because they have been great.”

”Hopefully I can get 60-65 minutes at Bristol Rovers and then there is another match the following week where I hope to get 90 minutes,”

”The aim is to get as many games as I can under my belt, because at one stage I wasn’t sure when this day would come.”
