The match officials have been announced for Saturday’s match at Old Trafford as Manchester United host Swansea City.

Bad news for Swans fans, it’s Bobby Madley. We’ve only won twice when Madley has officiated us. The most recent one being in the 2015/16 season when we beat Arsenal 2-1 at the Emirates. The only other one was the season before when we beat Aston Villa at the Liberty Stadium 1-0.

Manchester United v Swansea City
Referee: Bobby Madley
Assistants: Marc Perry, Mick McDonough
Fourth official: Anthony Taylor

We first got a taste of Madley and his woeful refereeing when we played Stoke City at the Liberty Stadium back in 2013/14. The game finished 3-3 after Madley awarded Stoke a 96th-minute penalty for a handball (that wasn’t) against Wayne Routledge.

Madley was back refereeing a Swansea-Stoke match again just two seasons later, and surprise surprise, he awarded Stoke another penalty – the only goal of the game. Just 4 minutes in, an obvious dive from Victor Moses but a spot-kick was given.

This season, Madley has officiated 25 games, handing out 89 yellows and 5 red cards. An average of 1 red card every 5 games, and 3.56 yellows per game.
