Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez insists he has ‘no regrets` over his starting line-up last night after he watched his much changed side succumb to a first home defeat since April.

The Spaniard made eight changes to the side that saw off the Hornet`s on Sunday, and despite this policy working in earlier rounds, it proved unsuccessful as Lee Williamson sent Watford into the quarter finals.

Martinez spoke to the Evening Post after the game:

‘There are no regrets.”

‘My disappointment is the performance and the fact that we didn’t reach the standards we have set throughout this season.”

‘The other disappointment is that we got heavily punished by a side who only created two chances. There wasn’t much in the game ? it was one of the poorest we’ve seen at the Liberty ? but we allowed them to win it.”

“We have to sense danger and don’t give a goal away like we did here, because there were three mistakes in the lead-up to it and that’s not like us.’

‘At Championship level there are many sides who are able to win games when they don’t play well and they are up near the top as a result.”

Tuesday nights poor showing should make picking Saturday`s team fairly easy for Martinez as very few performed well enough to warrant a starting place at Norwich. However, the manager refused to point the finger at anyone in particular.

‘I’ll take the blame for the fact that we didn’t do what we are good at. The players need to be ready to take their chance when it comes, but I will not blame individuals.’

‘We are purists and we want to be perfect, but we have to learn to win games when we don’t produce the perfect performance.”

A perfect performance and three points against Norwich on Saturday would do nicely for Swans fans and will help ease the pain of missing out on a big Premiership side in the quarter finals.
