Defender Dennis Lawrence could be set to miss the rest of the season after sustaining medial ligament damage to his Knee in yesterdays 2-2 draw over Crewe.

It is not the first time that a medial ligament injury has hit the Swansea squad. Andrea Orlandi suffered the same injury in the 1-0 win over Brighton in the Johnstones Paint Trophy southern section semi final on the 8th January.

Lawrence sustained the injury following a tackle on Crewe midfeilder Michael O’Connor and was immediately replaced by Alan Tate.

The Injury has left the Swansea City defence hopelessly exposed with only Kevin Austin and Alan Tate as experienced replacements for the Trinidad defender. Dorus De Vries has come out in support of his team mate and has highly praised the former Wrexham man. The Dutch stopper also insisted that Swansea will cope without the under fire defender.

He Told the BBC

“”Dennis has been superb for us this year so fingers crossed that he’ll be ok.I have no doubt that we have adequate cover.”

Further scans will be carried out to ascertain the severity of the injury and likely lay-off time. Roberto Martinez was left under no illusions of the serious nature of the injury to Lawrence.

He Told the BBC

“We think it’s the medial ligament in the knee.It will need a proper scan to be sure, but it looks a bad one.”.”

Martinez may look for cover in the form of an emergency loan to bolster the squad ahead of a crucial period as Swansea continue the race for promotion..
