Laudrup: We Deserved A Point vs Chelsea

Swansea City boss Michael Laudrup felt his side deserved the point they gained in today’s 1-1 draw at home against Chelsea.

Chelsea had the better and more clear-cut chances in the first half as Torres went closest with a header that was cleared off the line by Leon Britton.

Di Matteo’s side then increased the pace of their game in their second half as they looked to build on a promising first half performance with a goal. They got it on the hour mark but it was quite a lucky goal for them. Cahill headed a corner goalwards and Moses, knowing little about it, found the slightest touch to find the top corner of the net to break the deadlock.

You might have thought at this point that the then-League leaders would go on and score a second and possibly third goal to guarantee the points, but the Swans didn’t gave up, and looked to bounce back. Hernandez scored a superb goal from 20 yards to give the Swans a share of the points against a talented Chelsea team – one that is looking to win the title this season.

Laudrup felt it was a similar game to last week’s one at Manchester City, but this time they were rewarded with the point he felt they deserved.

“I think it was a deserved point.

Today, in many ways, was a copy of the game we played last week against Manchester City,”

“There were very few chances in today`s game. We had a couple of half chances while Chelsea had the Torres header which Leon cleared off the line.

“So, for me, the result was a deserved one.”

“We played the champions of Europe, and Liverpool at Anfield. I may be wrong but I`ve counted six chances against us in those games,”

“To finish this important week for the club with three positive performances was pleasing.

“The spotlight has been on Swansea in the last week, and maybe it will go away for the next few weeks.

“But we have very important games coming up and we have to make sure we are at the top of our game.”

Laudrup also spoke about goalscorer Pablo Hernandez and he says the Spaniard is getting better and better:

“I know what Pablo can do. Nearly every foreigner coming into a league, you always need time to adapt.

But he`s getting better and better. Not because he scored against Wigan and today – his performances have been very good.

You can see from the last few games that he is fast, good on one-on-one situations and moves into space. Technically, he does a very good job with the full-back when we are under pressure.

“But it was a good build-up to the goal and it was a fine finish.”
