Laudrup: 5-0 Win At QPR Was ‘Very Impressive’

Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup said he was very impressed with his side’s 5-0 win at QPR this afternoon.

The 48 year-old couldn’t have wished for a better start to his first season at the club. Not only did they win their first ever match at Loftus Road and ended a 7-year wait for an opening day win, they kept a clean sheet and won away from home – something they couldn’t achieve last season until January.

New signing Michu scored twice to give us a 2-0 lead before Dyer also netted a brace, with substitute Sinclair adding a late fifth.

‘It was very impressive,’

‘It’s always nice to win your first game of the season and to win away from home is always important because it can give you so much confidence going forward.



Last season it took us until January to win away from home and with two home games coming up, it gives us something to build on. But the players are the most important, and I’m delighted for them.”

Having scored the first two goals, Laudrup praised new £2m bargain buy Michu:

‘He was very good today,’

‘In particular, you look at his second goal and most players would maybe take a touch before shooting but he had the ability to have a go first time and it was a wonderful finish.



I saw a lot of him when he was at Rayo Vallecano and I was at Real Mallorca, where I worked with both Chico and de Guzman, and I knew exactly what they can all bring to us. They all wanted to come and play for Swansea, their personalities fit in here and I’m pleased for all of them.



All three players fit into the way we play, they are used to playing for smaller clubs out in Spain and that has helped us.’

Laudrup also spoke about the decision to start Wayne Routledge over Scott Sinclair – who this week rejected a new contract at the club.

‘Wayne has been with me since the day I arrived at Swansea,’

‘I have worked with him and Nathan on a number of things tactically, and that was why Scott was on the bench.



He has only been with us for about nine days after the Olympics and with what I had seen of him in training, I had no problem with having him in the squad today.



The QPR midfield was physically much stronger than ours and it was crucial that we were more compact and closed the spaces down quickly. They did well in the first 20 minutes or so but overall, nobody can begrudge us the victory today.’
