Vital Swansea would like to wish John Hartson the very best in his recovery after being diagnosed with testicular cancer which has also spread to his brain.

We have been shocked to hear the news today and our thoughts and feelings are with John and his family at this very difficult time.

John Hartson’s love for Swansea City is obvious, having often expressed his desire to play for his hometown club before he retired, but he never got the opportunity to play at the Liberty Stadium.

The former Welsh international striker will now undergo a lengthy course of radiotherapy and chemotherapy in his battle to recover from the illness, and we wish him the very best.

John Hartson’s family has released the following statement:

‘All the family, and John’s friends, are doing all we can to support him and praying that he will make a full recovery.

‘John is getting excellent care from the oncologists at the hospital as he begins his treatment.

‘John is a family man and we appreciate all the messages of support we have already received.’

Hartson also expressed a keen desire to take over from Roberto Martinez as the club’s new boss, saying he’d ‘walk over hot coals’ to manage the Swans.

From Vital Swansea and Swansea City fans everywhere, we wish you all the very best in your recovery from cancer.

Swansea City has also published an article on the Official site offering their full support and best wishes to John.
