Derby County manager Paul Jewell has refused to give up the chase for Ferrie Bodde.
The Rams had withdrawn from the race to sign the Dutch midfield ace stating that the difference in their evaluation of the player was an insurmountable hurdle. This has not cooled their interest in signing the midfielder.
Last week Swansea City were handed a boost with reports that suggested Bodde may retract his transfer request and stay at the club and would be consulting with his representatives whilst back home in Holland.
Bids have been tabled by the Pride Park outfit of £500,000 and £750,000 but both were rejected quickly by the club. In order to fight of any future bids for the highly rated midfielder Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins immediately slapped a £2 million price tag on the former ADO Den Haag player. This has still not stopped Derby from trying to prise Bodde away from The Liberty Stadium.
Jewell believes if club officials in South Wales can be sensible in their evaluation of the player a deal could be reached but with Jenkins and the board at Swansea City entrenched in their asking price Derby are still £1.25 million short of the evaluation.
Jewell Told The BBC:
| “The door isn’t shut, we would love to sign Bodde and if Swansea can be sensible about a price we could do a deal. Swansea obviously want to keep their best players, but we were disappointed when they made our offer public. It’s been going backwards and forwards and there’s a lot of work to do yet. We watched Bodde all last season and he was Swansea’s best player by a distance.” |
Existing Season Ticket holders have now got till the 16th June to retain their seats for next season.
